Do you need to do keyword research in order to have an effective website?

Yes, you definitely, definitely need to have someone do keyword research in order for your website to be effective as far as getting traffic into your site, your website can be fantastic without doing any sort of keyword research.

You can build a fantastic UI/UXit can look great. The design beautifully be built perfect and still miss the mark. For actually getting business into your site and getting new leads or helping you grow your business name.

Keyword research is part of a SEO campaign where you look at what you offer against what your competitors are ranking for, against what people are actually searching for in your target area.

So, for example, if you’re a Nashville based business and your customers are all in Nashville and they’re searching for a best Nashville Land Rover repair or whatever it is you want to be able to rank for those specific things where there’s volume of search. So it’s not just about the terms that you think you want.

So let’s say that you are an automotive repair company. You might not want to rank for auto repair. Maybe you do. It might be too broad. So keyword research helps identify what the opportunities are for your business and what words your customers search for, and then compare that against your competition and you find ways of building a keyword campaign or a keyword theme just that works for your business.

It used to be all about primary keywords and secondary keywords and then extra keywords and all of the plug-ins that people run on sites like Yoast and SEO Press and all of them have their ways of ranking.

But at the end of the day, if you have the wrong keywords on your site, all of your content efforts that you do will fail if you’re blogging in the hopes of bringing website traffic, but you don’t keyword research what you’re posting.

There’s a really good chance that you’re going to do a lot of writing and get a very low return. So keyword research is an imperative part of the website process for 95% of businesses out there.

If you happen to be a business that’s got a huge name for itself and you just need to prove it, then you don’t need to worry so much about keyword research. But even for those businesses, being effective with how people search for your business can produce an ROI even if you’re not looking for it.
