What is Google My Business and do I need this?
Google My Business is a program created by Google to help local businesses specifically, establish their place of business. So while it was originally intended for mostly local businesses, even international companies often will register a Google My Business.
In search engine optimization world it’s called a citation. But it’s basically a listing of your website and your business really in Google. So it allows you to put your business name, your hours, your location, what services and products you offer. People can review you on the platform. There are several reasons why you would want a Google My Business profile, even if you were say an international business.
Most of the time, though, it’s more geared towards and typically utilized by local businesses. So if you happen to run a business that has a service area, for example, or you have a storefront or you’re a franchise that has a hundred different locations, you’ll want to utilize Google My Business for the purposes of your customers being able to find you easily.
The way you can register is go to business.google.com and you can register your business there. You also can search your business name and sometimes your Google My Business will appear on the right side of your browser window and it will say “claim this business”, meaning someone has said this business is there, but you haven’t claimed it yet. So you could have an unclaimed listing or you can have no listing at all.
If you’re a local business, you definitely want to establish a Google My Business profile. It helps you with getting on the map for Google Maps and helps you with getting reviews. It helps with that SEO and help with your customers being able to find you on the Internet. So it’s a very, very valuable and free tool that you should be utilizing.
